AKRON, Ohio – The Wilmington College swim teams posted 88 lifetime best performances and established seven new school records during the Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Akron University.
“We work toward this meet as a celebration of our season,” WC swim coach Trip Breen said. “Both teams embraced that. It was exciting to watch 88 lifetime best swims and seven record-breaking performances.”
In the women’s meet, Wilmington finished in fifth place with 248 points. John Carroll University won the OAC title with 800 points. The University of Mount Union finished second with 723 points, Ohio Northern University placed third with 636 points and Baldwin Wallace University took fourth with 560 points.
Macki Leon was seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.25). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Margaret Hover, Hannah Davis, Leon and Maryn Herring were fifth (3:46.76).
Wilmington’s 200-yard medley relay squad of Kadie Grundy, Rebecca Curran, Herring and Davis finished fifth (1:58.52). The Quakers’ 800-meter freestyle relay team, Leon, Ellyse Herr, Rachel O’Donnell and Hover, also took fifth (8:22.55).
In the men’s meet, the Quakers finished in fifth place with 273 points. John Carroll University won its third consecutive OAC title with 985 points. Ohio Northern University finished second with 744.5 points, the University of Mount Union placed third with 694.5 points and Baldwin Wallace University took fourth with 310 points.
Isak Alin highlighted the men’s performance by claiming All-OAC honors in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday.
Alin, who broke a third Jason Keith (1998-99) record in the event with a time of 2:07.83, broke his own school record in the finals with a mark of 2:05.46.
Wilmington’s 400-yard medley relay team of Logan Schroer, Lawrence Daya, Aaron Polk and Alin took fifth with a time of 3:20.37.
On Thursday in the men’s meet, Alin set a new 200-yard individual medley school record with a time of 1:57.14. Alin broke Jason Keith’s mark of 1:57.58 which was established in 2000.
On Thursday in the women’s meet, Leon broke a school record twice in the same event. She went 2:16.5 in the preliminary heat of the 200-yard IM, breaking her own mark from 2018.
Then in the finals, Macki clocked a 2:15.06 to establish another WC mark.
