Mr. Tipton was born Feb. 27, 1968, in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of Charles Tipton of Centre Hall, Pa., and the late Donna Tipton. He grew up in Tipp City. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1986, and went on to pursue his passion for weather, graduating in 1991 from Penn State University with a major in meteorology. He began working for the National Weather Service, which took him to Dayton, Ohio, and Minneapolis, Minn., then back to Wilmington, where he was a lead forecaster from 1998. As a lead forecaster, he enjoyed mentoring, coaching and recognizing co-workers' skills. He received many awards for his accomplishments, and his positive attitude and ease with the public were assets to the community. He and his family have had many adventures together and loved to travel, camp and more recently doing run/walk races together. Family, outdoors and running were all so important in Greg's life and he tried to balance his time between the job he loved and his family and friends. He was a member of the Wilmington Friends Meeting and a former member of the West Charleston Church of the Brethren. He was a part of various church youth activities, including camps and Habitat for Humanity. He valued the time he could spend at church, but also was a man of quiet prayer and faith. He touched so many lives in his short time here, and his smile, gentleness and infectious laughter will be missed by all. His father, brother and all of his extended family will miss him.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two children, Galen, 13, and Nathan, 10; and a brother, Timothy of Tipp City.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the West Charleston Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Wilmington Friends Meeting, and a gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR AND FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Scholarship Fund at any Wright Patterson Credit Union. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the funeral home's Web site at www.trostelchapman.com.
