Injustice hit home Oct. 1

Editor, News Journal:

We were to be removed from our home [Oct. 31], 30 days after the Oct. 1 invasion by federal marshals. But on [Oct. 29], the court allowed us to remain at least until our home is auctioned.

On that first day of October, two sheriffs, one plain clothes ATF agent, four U.S. marshals bedecked in bullet-proof vests and automatic side arms, two representatives from Planned Parenthood, and two packers entered our house for the purpose of removing both the family’s computers, TVs, cameras and books. The house was searched and videoed by Planned Parenthood representatives without a search warrant. Our attorneys were not notified and my husband was forbidden from calling the press or me. I found out about the invasion from a friend.

Why the Rambo performance? Because in the mid 90s Planned Parenthood sued vocal Life Advocates over speech that they did not like. Under orders from a (Ninth Circuit) federal judge, a jury could find the defendants liable for making threats against abortionists even though no actual threats were made. He said the Life Advocates (defendants) should have known that abortionists would feel threatened by their rhetoric. Michael Bray’s share of this liability was $1 million. He was not a member of this “insensitive” group; he had been invited to display and sell his book at one of their conferences. This suit has nothing to do with Michael’s conviction of over 20 years ago. He was apparently added as a defendant to help besmirch the good reputations of the others with a “convicted felon.”

We would be utterly remiss not to speak of the kindnesses shown to our family by this wonderful town. The support, companionship, and sympathy of this community — school, parents, administrators and churches — have overwhelmed us. Strangers from other states have written to and supported us. It is our desire to somehow be able, with the help of family and friends, to buy back our home at auction. Injustice happens — all over the world. It hit home on Oct. 1, but with God’s help, we will press on.

JAYNE BRAY

75wew3 Aaron Brandon's comments are quite typical of the death mentality liberals and contains totally false information. The facts are he was tried under RICO civil litigation that the supreme court has said will no longer be allowed. Much the way the ACLU has used and abused against veterans. Pastor Bray is an outstanding journalist, ethicist and author. He was pulled into the Oregon lawsuit simply for his writing for The Advocate Magazine. God bless his community for recognizing this terrible injustice and we all should notice free speech is a curse IF YOUR RIGHTEOUS. THEY ARE A WONDERFUL FAMILY AND MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THEM AGAINST PLANNED PARENTHOODS SEX EXPLOITATION MILLS AND LARGEST DEATH CAMP IN THE WORLD. FREEDOM ISN'T FREE!!!!

While that is certainly an interesting spin, it's worth going online and reading about the case for oneself. The facts are that Bray and the group he associated himself with publicly displayed the names and home addresses of doctors at the clinic--a clear violation of an individual's right to privacy (one need only look at the like-minded Fred Phelps to see what sort of folks we're dealing with here). This action caused clinic workers to become fearful enough to wear bulletproof vests into work. This is not surprising, considering the past actions of other Army of God members such as James Kopp, who carried out a cowardly sniper-style execution on a New York doctor. As if this weren't enough, they went on to list the names and addresses not only of doctors but of judges whom they deemed hostile to their cause. They even went so far as to offer a $5,000 "reward" (read: "bounty") for the "arrest, conviction and revocation of license to practice medicine." Now, I ask you, who was going to "arrest" these people? Certainly not legitimate law enforcement officers, since they were not breaking the law. Clearly, given the past actions of these people and their associates, this could only be taken as a direct threat of harm. Furthermore, Michael Bray and Donald Treshman were found guilty of violating the federal FACE law of 1994.

While it may be nice to paint oneself as a victim of the big, bad secular world, it is simply untrue. Michael Bray has consistently set himself above the law (indeed, he was found to have refused to comply with legal discovery orders), and that he is justified in killing, so long as his cause is righteous. This sounds chillingly familiar to anyone who still recalls September 11, 2001. Michael Bray certainly does, since he publically referred to the post-9/11 Anthrax letters as "a good idea," and challenged his supporters to follow suit in sending such letters to clinics. It is well worth noting that Army of God--of which Michael Bray is chaplain--has been classified as a terrorist organization by the government-funded MIPT terrorism database. In short, Michael Bray has brought this upon himself and his family. He has no respect for anyone who does not think as he does, and is willing to take the most extreme measures to compel others to obey his opinion. What ye reap, so shall ye sow.

As a friend of the Bray family, and knowing them as we do, my family feels the same way as those about whom Jayne writes in this article. However, let me say one thing that bothers me some: what the Bray family needs is not sentiments, Michael Bray needs gainful employment.

What seems to get in Michael’s way of getting a job is his felony (which Jayne mentioned) from 20 years ago. You may disagree with Michael’s methods – fine; but you cannot disagree with his motive. Michael’s felony was related to his love and action for children not yet born. He did not leave these to his simple sentiments.

Michael is not a liar, thief, or extortionist. He is an honorable man. That Wilmington at large recognizes the honor of his family by sentiment and word, it is not enough. Honor them with your deeds, and begin by providing the opportunity for Michael to have gainful employment. Anything else is empty.
