The Wilmington Christian Academy, a nondenominational, outreach-based Christian school, will be the home for a beginning band program which also will invite any home-schooled students in fourth through 12 grades to participate.
Students do not need to be enrolled in the WCA to attend.
The band will meet from 3:20 to 4:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning today. Students interested also may begin as late as Jan. 17.
Instruments will be demonstrated today. Rental programs are available.
The director, Paul Shivers, has a master’s degree in music education and has received degrees from Miami University and Ohio University. He has over 37 years as a band director and is experienced at starting band programs for the fifth- and sixth-grade level. He is a member of OMEA, a professional music teachers organization. He and his wife are owners of For A Song & A Story, a local music store in Wilmington.
