Source: DHL to return to N. Ky.

GARY HUFFENBERGER
Staff Writer

DHL Express has decided to move its U.S. hub operations for its international business to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Kentucky.

The move is expected to be completed by mid- to late summer, according to a well-placed source who wished to remain anonymous late Thursday night. The announcement was made to DHL employees at the DHL Air Park Thursday night.

No announcement was made at the same time about which airline DHL will utilize as its air carrier at CVG, the source said.

People who will work as sorters at the CVG facility will be employed by DHL, said the source.

In late March, the Business Courier of Cincinnati reported the State of Kentucky had offered DHL nearly $2 million in tax incentives to relocate the company’s remaining operations out of Wilmington to CVG.

According to a project report released by the Kentucky Economic Development’s Finance Authority Board, relocation of DHL’s U.S.-based international express business would generate 187 full-time jobs and 646 part-time jobs, for a total of 833 positions in Kentucky.

Before DHL consolidated its primary U.S. hub operations at the expanded and upgraded Wilmington Air Park in fall 2005, it utilized CVG as its main sorting hub.

Bye Bye DHL , you will not be missed in this community . Thanks for all of the heartache and despair that you and your management and owners have bestowed on this great town many of us will no longer call home . Best of luck to Kentucky and all of the incentives that they are throwing under the bus that could be used elsewhere for greater things than a company that is planning on phasing out its business after the incentives are up in a few years . Wilmington knows this first hand .

it is about time dhl would come clean and admitt they are leaving, and when. I worked there for 19+ years, just left last week.guess I left at the right time. too bad many more good people will loose their jobs.at least I was able to retire. don't wish anyone bad luck, but hope dhl can't make a go of it at cvg.people of that area shouldn't trust the dirty dogs.

As much as I hate what DHL has done to the people at the airpark including myself honestly I wish they would just leave and leave now... They took a part of everyones lives but I am glad to see them move. I would hate to think they would use that air base for the very little business that they do have left when it could be used for so much more. When that base was AIRBORNE EXPRESS I LOVED WORKING THEY'RE .. WE HAD FUN.... WHEN DHL CAME IN THEY MADE ARE LIFE THEY'RE SO MESSED UP.... FOR EVERYONE I WORKED FOR IT WAS FUN AND EVERYONE WHO WORKED FOR ME IT WAS A BLAST AND IF IT WASN'T FOR ALL THE DEDICATED PEOPLE OUT THEY'RE THAT COMPANY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WHAT IT WAS WITHOUT EVERYONES BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS...
