A new groceries ministry has come to Clinton County. The Wilmington Church of Christ has been authorized to become the host site in the county for Angel Food Ministries.
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief to communities. The food ministry was founded by Joseph and Linda Wingo while they were serving a church in Monroe, Ga.
Angel Food Ministries distributes to more than 5,200 volunteer host sites across 42 states in the United States, who in turn provide boxes of food to individual families.
A signature box can be purchased for $30. Depending on local food prices, the signature box can retail for an average of $65. A regular box assists in feeding a family of four for about a week, or a single person for almost a month, said a media release from Angel Food Ministries.
Each month, Angel Food also offers “Specialty boxes” of steak, chicken, pork. It also offers a seniors box (already prepared meals), a seafood box and also an allergen-free box.
There also are specialty boxes that offer participants additional food choices. There is no limit for specialty boxes after one of the signature boxes has been purchased.
There are no restrictions, conditions or forms to fill out to purchase a food box. The program is open to everyone, the release said. Anyone may purchase an unlimited number of boxes of Angel Food by placing an order with the local host site or you can order online to be delivered to the local host site.
The next delivery of food will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Orders for this monthly May delivery will be taken at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust St., Wilmington, in the lobby from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays April 29 and May 6, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays May 2 or 9.
Cash (no checks) or food stamps accepted when order is placed. Or a person may order online at angelfoodministries.com by using a credit or debit card and having it delivered to the Wilmington host site.
