A 49-year-old Westerville woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 71 in Liberty Township, Clinton County, at 10:34 p.m. Thursday. The driver of the semi tractor-trailer involved in the accident reportedly left the scene, the Ohio State Highway Patrol post at Wilmington reported.
Trina Lewis of Westerville was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound on I-71 when the car went off the left side of the road, hit the median and overturned. Lewis was thrown from the car and landed in the southbound lanes of I-71.
Still in the road, Lewis was hit by a southbound semi tractor-trailer. According to the patrol, the driver of the truck did not stop after hitting Lewis and continued southbound.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by investigators from the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.
The patrol asks that anyone who may have witnessed the accident call the Wilmington post at 382-2551.
Lewis was not wearing a seat belt. The patrol also said that it is not known whether alcohol was factor in the crash.
