Two Oriental game birds were allegedly stolen from the Clarksville area and tools and numerous miscellaneous items were reported missing in two separate breaking and enterings in Clinton County.
Joseph Shumaker of A Street in Wilmington, is the owner of the birds which were kept in a pen on Clarksville Road. To get to the birds, the suspect cut the electric fence that surrounds the bird pen, said Deputy Terry Meehan of the sheriff’s office, who is investigating the theft.
“Mr. Shumaker knows that they were stolen because the hitch that ties around the leg and attaches to the barrel had also been cut,” Meehan said.
Meehan said Shumaker believes the theft is the “work of juveniles because one of the barrels had been shot by a paintball.”
“Mr. Shumaker also stated that he is the only person in the state of Ohio that sells these birds,” Meehan said.
The birds were valued at $400.
A large number of miscellaneous items were allegedly stolen in a breaking and entering at a residence on U.S. 68 South, Blanchester, where the occupants were in the process of moving out.
Polly A. Bays said the suspect(s) stole numerous items which were valued at $1,561, including a Euro-Pro sewing machine, a Dessert Storm toy horse set, five or six yards of various sewing material, two pinatas, a Time Warner router box, a bag of children’s clothing, a Pepsi model box truck, 50 X-Box games and a Eureka upright vacuum cleaner.
Deputy Victor Wright said the value of the stolen items is estimated at $1,561. No estimate of value was given for the X-Box games.
Entry was gained through a back window in the house.
A back door was forced open to gain entry to the Donald DiMario residence on North Broadway Street in Midland. Thieves allegedly stole an estimated $400 in tools, according to Deputy Terry Meehan. Reported stolen were a Craftsman cordless drill, Craftsman cordless saw and a Black and Decker drill bit set.
