WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man is in jail after allegedly stealing from R+L Carriers in both Lexington and Wilmington, according to media reports.

William J. Carter, 39, of Wilmington, allegedly possessed items that were reported stolen from the R+L Carriers’ office in Lexington and was arrested Dec. 23.

Two Kentucky media reports allege Carter stole an R+L semi-trailer that contained cigarettes, cigars and janitorial supplies. Those reports say Lexington police found items from the trailer in Carter’s home in Wilmington and in his business in Hamilton.

According to those same reports, Carter will be charged by Lexington police with a felony charge alleging theft.

Locally, Carter was charged Monday with grand theft, three counts of receiving stolen property and a concealed weapon violation, all felonies, according to records with the Clinton County Municipal Court.

Carter is in the Clinton County Jail and has been since Dec. 23.
