Veterans award nursing scholarships

Clinton County Voiture 992 (V-992), a small charitable veterans group, has been involved in the 40 & 8’s Nurses Training Program since they received their charter in 1984. Every year since then, if they had an applicant(s), they have awarded a “Nurses Training” scholarship that has now grown to $2,000 per recipient.

The veterans continued their efforts by awarding two $2,000 scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year.

Holly Young and Cara Vinup, the most recent recipients, have now successfully completed their last two semesters in exemplary fashion and have received their second $1,000 check from the Voiture’s Jeanette Payne Memorial Nurses Scholarship Fund.

In 2003 the scholarship was renamed the “Jeanette Payne Memorial Nurses Scholarship” in honor of her lifelong dedication to the nursing profession and her years training nurses at CMH. The V-992 members are committed to doing all they can to meet the ever increasing demand for nurses and the increased number of scholarship applicants.

V-992, for the first time, awarded two $2,000 scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year and was able to do so for the same for the 2018-19 academic year, thanks to the generosity the Post 49 American Legion Family.

Also, for the first time, the 30 Clinton County veterans that make up the organization are turning to the community for financial assistance.

The members have set a goal of $30,000 in donations, in addition to their ongoing fundraising activities like breakfasts, raffles, etc.

To make a tax-deductible donation to the “Jeanette Payne Memorial Nurses Scholarships”, make checks payable to: American Legion Charities (memo: Jeanette Payne Scholarship) and mail to Jack Rose, 267 N. Lincoln St.,Wilmington, OH 45177 or drop off at Wilmington Veterans Post 49, 140 E. Locust St.,Wilmington, marked: Attn: Jack Rose.
