The Wilmington Police Department is warning of a scam taking place in the area.

Sgt. Ron Fithen told the News Journal that both businesses and residents have reported Monday that they have received a call from someone claiming to be a representative of DP&L. Fithen said the caller threatens that service will be cut off unless they send money via wire transfer to DP&L.

DP&L has also received reports of these calls. Fithen said that people should not send money to DP&L via wire transfer; if you have any questions, contact DP&L directly.
