DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The father of a 10-year-old boy whose body showed signs that he’d been severely beaten was charged Monday with numerous counts of child endangering, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor.

Al Mutahan McClean, 30, of Dayton, is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 31 on charges including rape of a child, felonious assault, and four endangering children counts, said Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. Online court records don’t list an attorney for McClean. There was no answer at the public defender’s office, which represented him when preliminary charges were first filed.

Heck said 10-year-old Takoda Collins was pronounced dead at Dayton Children’s Hospital Dec. 13 after police and paramedics responded to a report of an unresponsive child.

Detectives learned that “there had been extreme abuse for an extended amount of time inflicted by McClean,” including the child being locked naked in an attic, the Dayton Daily News reported, referring to a court affidavit.

The child had “multiple cuts and bruises all over his body,” according to court records, the paper said.

McClean’s girlfriend and her sister also face multiple child endangering charges.
