SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) — A man who stabbed and wounded his mother before barricading himself inside the home they shared was found dead several hours later when police entered the residence, authorities said.

Andre Simpson, 47, died from what appears to be multiple self-inflicted stab wounds, authorities said.

Police responded to the Springfield Township home Monday after Simpson stabbed Ida Simpson in the back and neck with a butcher knife. She eventually escaped and fled to a neighbor’s house, and authorities were alerted about the attack.

Responding officers made contact with Andre Simpson, but he fled inside his house before they could arrest him. A Hamilton County SWAT team was called to the home along with a helicopter, and authorities tried unsuccessfully for several hours to make contact with him.

Simpson’s body was found shortly after officers entered the home. It wasn’t clear when he killed himself or what prompted the attack on his mother.

Ida Simpson was taken to a hospital for treatment of her wounds, but authorities provided no further details on her condition.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
