WHS presents Little Mermaid, big entertainment

WILMINGTON — Dress rehearsals are underway at WHS for this week’s performance of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”

The play brings to life all your favorite songs and characters from the award-winning animated film.

In a magical kingdom below the waves, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, Ariel, is tired of “flipping her fins” and longs to be part of the human world above, so she makes a deal with Ursula the Sea Witch to trade her tail for legs.

In order to keep up her end of the bargain, Ariel must get a “kiss of true love” from Prince Eric before sunset on the third day. Her friends Flounder the fish, Sebastian the crab, and Scuttle the seagull join her on this adventure of a lifetime.

Performances will be held on Thursday, March 17, Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wilmington High School auditeria.

Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. Tickets are $12. Reserve tickets by calling the theatre at the WHS Box Office at 937-283-7235.

The spring musical — at least the Friday performance — conflicts with the WHS boys basketball team’s Final Four game on Friday evening in Columbus. Wilmington City Schools Superintendent Ron Sexton said the scheduling conflict is disappointing for some who can’t make it to both events, but there are people coming out of town to attend the play and the school district wants to accommodate them.
