Blanchester Police say at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday someone broke into Blanchester Jewelry and Collectibles at 105 S. Broadway Street in downtown Blanchester.

The burglar broke the front door glass at the store with a rock, entered the store, grabbed the cash register, then fled north on Broadway Street, according to BPD Chief Scott Reiinbolt.

“It took the disorganized culprit two tries to break the door glass with the rock,” he said. “He then entered the store and attempted to jump the counter, but was unable to make the leap, and opted to walk around the counter. He also did not unplug the cash register before grabbing it, and ran out of cord on his way to the front door and was jerked to a stop. He then yanked the cord from the wall and made his escape.”

Reinbolt stated the burglar was dressed in a blue coat, blue jeans, dark tennis shoes and dark gloves. In-store video shows that immediately after the man entered the front door, a car traveling eastbound on Main Street turned south onto Broadway Street with their headlights illuminating the broken glass.

“We are hopeful this person saw something helpful and will contact police,” Reinbolt said.

The police department is offering a $500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who entered the store. Tips can be provided to the police department at 937-783-4702.

In order to collect the reward, the person providing the information must identify himself or herself so that the reward can be given to the correct person once an arrest is made. Residents should be alert to people suddenly discarding clothing such as the burglar wore, or someone who seems to have come into a small windfall of cash, Reinbolt said.
