Free Alzheimer’s workshop slated in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Family members, caregivers and others interested in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia are invited to attend a care and support workshop on Saturdays, April 16 and 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clinton County Senior Center, 717 N. Nelson Ave., Wilmington.

The workshop — What Families Need to Know … When the Diagnosis is Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Dementia — is being offered by the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Topics include the various types of diagnoses, stages and treatments of dementia; strategies to cope with daily challenges such as communication and behaviors; information about legal and financial planning including Advance Directives; and identifying community services such as respite and long-term care.

Scheduled speakers and their topics are:

April 16: “Legal Planning for Families” presented by Christopher Lavin (Elder Law Attorney at Lavin Law Group, LLC) & “Family Coping Strategies & Community Resources” presented by Robyn Gleadle, LISW (Social Worker at Alzheimer’s Association).

April 23: “The Nature and Progression of the Disease” presented by Dr. Parker Niemann (Psychiatrist at the Cincinnati VA Hospital) & “Changes in Communication and Behavior” presented by Kristin Cooley, LISW (Social Worker at Alzheimer’s Association).

The program is free of charge and open to the public. Reservations will be accepted through the Friday before each session. Individuals may attend either or both sessions.
