Blanchester Police report they were called to the 800 block of East Center Street on the evening of Sunday, April 10, where a man reported a car had just passed and a passenger in the car shot a BB gun at his home. The man stated his child was playing in the yard at the time, and he was alarmed when he saw the passenger with a gun, as it looked like a real firearm. The man said he realized it was a BB gun when it was fired and didn’t make the loud noise one might expect from a firearm.

According to Police Chief Scott Reinbolt, an investigation was opened and witnesses were interviewed. At around 10 p.m. Sunday the police department received a tip that the car involved in the incident was parked at the McDonald’s restaurant on W. Main Street. An officer responded and found the car’s owner and interviewed him.

As the investigation progressed, Reinbolt said officers were able to identify the man who shot the BB gun as Zach Harmon, 20, who is homeless. Harmon was arrested late Tuesday morning and was charged with Criminal Damaging.

The investigation revealed that Harmon was not aware that there were people in the vicinity when he discharged the BB gun and that his intent was to damage a nearby street sign, Reinbolt said. He was taken to the Clinton County Jail and answered the charge in the Clinton County Municipal Court.

Police say this BB gun was fired on Center Street.
