WILMINGTON — The Clinton County Youth Council (CCYC) hosted a Global Youth Service Day event on Saturday, April 16.

More than 45 students, staff, and community volunteers joined together to make improvements to the CCYC disc (Frisbee) golf course and to pick up litter on the Luther Warren Peace Path bike trail.

Ewing Tree Service and the Wilmington High School Interact Club provided volunteers for the day of service, stated a news release.

Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. The CCYC has participated in GYSD each year since 2010.

Following the service activities, volunteers gathered for a meal sponsored by Sodexo.

Brandon Baltazar and Malaki Algood were recognized as CCYC Student Community Service Leaders of the year. Ewing Tree Service was recognized as Business Community Service Leader of the Year.

CCYC is Clinton County’s only free after-school program for middle and high school age students that offers mentoring, academic support and daily snacks/meals.
