Hillsboro woman killed in one-car accident

HIGHLAND COUNTY – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Wilmington Post is investigating a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on State Route 73 near milepost 6, at approximately 7 a.m. Monday.

According to the OSHP, Mary A. Peterson, 69, of Hillsboro was traveling south on State Route 73 in a 2006 Ford Taurus 4-door. Her vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway where she struck a guardrail, then the vehicle continued off the roadway and went over an embankment, rolled over and came to a rest on its top in a creek.

Mary Peterson and her front seat passenger, James T. Peterson, 29, of Hillsboro, were transported by Paint Creek Fire/EMS to Highland District Hospital. Ms. Peterson was then transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Air Care. Mary Peterson was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Paint Creek Fire/EMS, Highland County Sheriff’s office, Ohio State Highway Patrol Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Mary Peterson and James Peterson were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the OSHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
