WARREN COUNTY –A Florida man led a multi-county pursuit of Ohio troopers that ended with an arrest and ended a kidnapping, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

On Thursday, May 19 at 12:09 p.m. a trooper stopped a reported reckless driver on southbound Interstate 71 near State Route 48 in Warren County. Upon approaching the vehicle, the female passenger, Barbara McCain, 51, from Tiltonsville, Ohio, indicated to the trooper she needed help, according to police. The driver, Thomas Gorman, 54, from Lakeland, Florida, accelerated rapidly, dragging the trooper a short distance as he fled the scene with McCain, police said.

The trooper pursued the vehicle as it continued southbound on Interstate 71 and then westbound on Interstate 275, police said. Several other Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit before they say Gorman lost control of his vehicle near Winton Road; it was boxed in and Gorman was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

McCain had minor injuries from an alleged assault by Gorman, who was not injured. Assisting troopers sustained minor injuries during the apprehension.

McCain was transported to a secured location where she was reunited with family, police said.

Gorman was charged with kidnapping, felonious assault, simple assault, fleeing and eluding and reckless operation. He was incarcerated in the Warren County Jail.
