WILMINGTON — CMH Regional Health System continues its year-long series of community education events with a discussion of head injuries and concussions this Thursday, July 21, led by Dr. David Allen, Medical Director of Emergency Services. So far, the series has covered heart health, organ donation awareness, dementia for caregivers, neurological disorders of advancing age, and breast cancer surgeries.

Dr. Allen received his Doctor of Osteopathy and completed his residency at The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois and was Chief Resident during his tenure. Prior to coming to CMH, he was Assistant Medical Director of Atrium Medical Center’s Emergency Trauma Center where he practiced for eight years.

CMH CEO Greg Nielsen spoke of the success of the events so far.

“We’ve been so pleased to see that our community has taken an interest in these events, and we look forward to Thursday’s discussion with Dr. Allen,” he said. “Our medical staff members have enjoyed speaking on their topics of specialty and really connecting with community members to discuss critical health issues in a more accessible way.”

This Thursday’s event will take place at 6 p.m. in the CMH Café Conference Rooms and will be focused on diagnosis and treatment, revised guidelines for athletes, CMH initiatives for treating pediatric head injuries, as well as frequently asked questions about diagnostic testing and more. Light refreshments will be provided.
