Think green this summer — the Wilmington College-Community Summer Theatre has cast nearly 30 actors for its production of “Shrek The Musical” July 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m., and July 19 at 2:30 p.m., in WC’s Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

Part romance and part fractured fairy tale, it provides family fun for adults as well as children. Wilmington native and Summer Theatre alumnus Dan Hunt is directing the production.

“The story is fun, the ogre is loveable, the characters are sassy and crazy,” Hunt said. “This cast reflects that very well. It’s a very talented group.”

The cast includes Shrek, played by Bryan Wallingford; Fiona, Gina Beck; Donkey, Bekah Muchmore; Lord Farquaard, Timothy Larrick; Pinocchio, Danny Harp; Gingy, Keni Brown; and Dragon, Cherie Cooper-Darragh/Tricia Heys/Rhonda Wheasler.

Other area performers playing multiple roles as tap dancing rats, fairy tale misfits, villagers, singing guards and knights are Aaron Abirached, Connie Abirached, Tevin Amburgy, George Byrd, Victoria Camby, Andrew Conarroe, Asia Evans, Claudia Fowler, Cole Haugh, Nikita James, Victoria Martini, Alexia Minton, Erin Moore, Matt Purkey, Jennifer Ramage, Alison Ramage, Kevin Wall, Jordan Whealdon, Tim Wiederhold and Jessica Yankel.

In addition to Hunt as director, the show features Wynn Alexander’s set design with lighting design by Becky Haines, as well as Cole Haugh’s choreography, musical direction by Matt Spradlin and Amanda Roberts as assistant musical director.

“Let your freak-flag fly with this wonderfully zany musical for the whole family,” Hunt added.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children age 12 and under. Reservations are available by contacting the theatre box office weekdays, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267 or 937-481-2267.
