WARREN COUNTY — One of the men killed in a Sunday small plane crash near Fort Ancient was a former Wilmington-area resident.

Former Clinton County resident Eric Hackney, 43, of Florida, and Jesse Loy, 36, were flying from Punta Gorda, Florida, to visit Warren County friends when the plane crashed near the Little Miami River in a wooded area, according to The Associated Press.

The crash site was thick with trees and emergency personnel had a challenging time to get to the wreckage, stated the AP and a WCPO News report.

The Warren County Coroner’s Office said the fire engulfed the plane and its occupants quickly.

Hackney’s work history included Midwest Energy Contractor, which was located on West Sugartree Street in downtown Wilmington.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Tuesday, stated The Associated Press.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials have examined the crash site, according to reports.
