BPD seeking new home for Jerry

BLANCHESTER — Several months ago a Blanchester Police Department midnight shift officer, Ptl. Kristen Jeffers, found a stray cat behind Putman Elementary School. On her off-duty time, Jeffers corralled the cat with the intention of taking him to a shelter.

According to BPD Chief Scott Reinbolt, Jeffers stopped at the police station on her way to the shelter, where the cat escaped from her clutches. She was unable to get him into her personal car to take him to the shelter. Jeffers hoped the cat would become more docile over the next few days and could then be transported.

As often happens, as the cat spent more time around the police station, all of the officers became attached to it. He was named “Jerry” and became “a sort-of unofficial mascot for the police department,” Reinbolt said.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the mayor received an anonymous written complaint about stray cats around city hall and on Wednesday he directed that “Jerry” be removed from the premises, Reinbolt said. “We are therefore seeking a loving home for Jerry, who has become much more receptive to human contact,” he said.

If anyone has any interest in adopting him, contact the police department at 937-783-4702, ext 15.
