Garden club donates to Habitat

Clinton County Habitat for Humanity will be the recipient of garden tools and supplies, to be donated by the members of the Wilmington Garden Club.

Several members brought donations to the monthly meeting on Monday, March 13, including water hoses, plant food, watering cans, trowels and other hand tools, flower pots and garden gloves — all necessary for new homeowners to maintain their new lawns and gardens.

Several jars of lemon hand-scrub were also assembled and added to the cache of tools donated to new Habitat homeowners. Three simple ingredients — coconut oil, granulated sugar and a few drops of lemon essential oils — were all it took to create this useful, aromatic gift.

The club members voted to accept Vicki Conley as a new member.

Hostesses Sandy Luck and Ann Emerson decorated each table with a bright green watering can filled with garden gloves and hand tools.

Several discussions ensued, led by President Joan Hinman and Vice President Maggie Vance. In addition to ongoing maintenance of three different gardens in Wilmington, the members discussed the annual plant sale, May 6, and the judged flower show, June 28.

Hosting responsibilities for the May 11 Region 16 Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC) spring meeting were shared with members present, and sign-ups encouraged. A fun tour to Cincinnati Zoo’s Tulip Mania is planned for April.

“Inviting Butterflies to your Garden” will be the theme for the April 10 meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Cape May Campus Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
