BLANCHESTER —Blanchester police say a local resident reported that someone came into his home and stole some items — including his heroin.

At around 6:30 p.m. Monday police were called to 212 E. Fancy St. where Joseph Burkhart, 31, of that address reported that someone had burglarized the residence, according to Police Chief Scott Reinbolt.

“Burkhart stated the burglar entered the residence and stole a cellular phone, some loose change and approximately $100 worth of heroin,” said Reinbolt. “He stated all of the items were on the kitchen counter.”

The responding officer interviewed other family members, some of whom reside in the home, and it appears the burglary occurred sometime during the daylight hours while Joseph was alone in the house asleep, Reinbolt said.

An officer canvassed the neighborhood Monday night, which produced some leads of interest, Reinbolt said, adding that an officer will be assigned to follow those leads today.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the police station at 937-783-4702.
