City, kids set to make a real splash

WILMINGTON — The city is set to make quite a splash beginning Wednesday evening — but it’ll need a lot of help from a lot of local children.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday kids will help cut the ribbon signifying the opening of the Splash Park at David Williams Park.

“We’re going to turn things on as soon as the ribbon is cut,” said Park Director Lori Williams.

Regular park hours will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to Williams. She also recommends keeping track of things on the Park’s Facebook page.

She added that, during the week they were testing the splash park, that “it was like a magnet” with kids.

The splash pad is located between the wooden playground and the dog park near the parking lot on Fife Avenue in Wilmington.

The David Williams Memorial Park Completion Project is a reality because of the fundraising work of the Wilmington City Parks department and significant funding from the Clinton County Foundation. Ground was broken for the facility on April 1.

On June 8 the Clinton County Foundation made its second grant of $25,000 to reach the campaign goal needed for the new splash pad, as well as the new concrete skate park.

The water at the new splash pad will be turned on right after the ribbon-cutting Wednesday evening.
