BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester board of education at its meeting Monday night approved Christopher E. Smith as the next high school principal.

Smith, who is from Williamsburg, Ohio, had been a middle school principal in the Ripley Union Huntington Lewis (RUHL) district.

“I consider it a privilege to be a part of the Blanchester Local School District and I’m looking forward to working with the high school staff, students and local community stakeholders,” he stated in a press release issued late Monday.

Smith replaces former principal Rick Hosler, who earlier had resigned that post.

Smith, a 23-year veteran in education, is a graduate of Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, receiving his Master’s of Education in Administration from Ohio University. He completed his superintendent’s course work at Xavier University.

In 2010, his building was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The School of Promise designation was given to his buildings by the Ohio Department of Education in 2004 and 2012.

“Mr. Smith comes to us with some very successful academic and administrative credentials from multiple school districts,” said Blanchester Superintendent Dean Lynch. “He has been a successful administrator at the elementary and secondary levels throughout his career. The interview committee selected not only a good educational leader for their building but a solid individual as well.”

Blanchester FFA teacher Eric Heeg sat on the interview committee and said of his new supervisor, “I believe Chris will be a good fit for BHS and am excited for him to join our family.”
