Alice journeys in Wonderland on Friday night, Saturday afternoon in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Clinton County Kids & Company opens its 24th summer season by presenting “Alice in Wonderland” on Friday, June 30 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m. at the Wilmington High School auditeria.

The show will feature more than 48 local children and teenagers. Admission is free and The Crave Candy and Nuts will be selling treats before and after the show. Treats by Papsy’s Place will be sold after the show as well. Donations will be accepted at the door.

This classic story was originally written by Lewis Carroll. This production was adapted by Jason Pizzarello and is presented by special arrangement from Playscripts Inc. The director is Ken Lydy, associate dean of students at Wilmington College.

Tara Lydy, director of the Center for Service and Civic Engagement at Wilming ton College, is designing the costumes for the show. Lois A. Hock, professor of theatre at Wilmington College and managing director of Kids & Company, is supervising the production and overseeing the sets and lighting.

“Join Alice as she journeys through Wonderland, encountering all sorts of interesting characters along the way. She has tea with a Mad Hatter, converses with a Cheshire Cat, and of course comes face to face with the Queen of Hearts. This play is a unique twist on a classic story,” according to a spokesperson.

Director Ken Lydy said, “The challenge this year is working with actors of all ages. We have children as young as 5 all the way up to adults. There are some returning actors to Kids and Company, as well as many who will make their first appearance on stage. With a cast of 48, we will definitely fill the stage.”

The cast features Mackenzie Klostermeier as Alice, Lindsay Lydy is the White Rabbit, Sydney McCord is Second Alice, Mackenzie Snarr as an Old Squirrel, Jenna Earley is the Fish Footman, Veronica Calderone is the Frog Footman, Sarah Wuellner as the Duchess, and Holden Wulff as the Cook.

Also there will be Josie Heys as the Cheshire Cat, Eli Peelle as the Mad Hatter, Katie Murphy as the March Hare, Aiden Peelle is the Dormouse, Ella Neuenschwander is the Caterpillar, Jillian Snarr as a Rose, Bryn Tippett is a Tiger-Lily, Emily Harrington is Tweedle Dee, Hayley Harrington is Tweedle Dum, and Fox Grosvenor is the White Knight.

Also appearing on stage will be Layna Tippett as Humpty Dumpty, Trey Cochran is the General, Jocelyn Engel is Gardener Two, Audrey Conarroe is Gardener Five, Naomi Quigley is Gardener Seven, Micah Davis is the Judge, Bekah Muchmore as the Queen of Hearts, Nicholas Wolf is the Executioner, and Sam Schmidt is the Knave of Hearts.

Then there are Emmie Picklesimer as Alice’s Sister, and the Soldier Cards are played by Bella Myburgh, Vanessa Calderone, Adalynn Gill, Kennedy Gill, Paige Maples, Emma Trimble and Makenzie Daniels.

Members of the Jury include Bo Frye, Griffin Snarr, Elle Dunham, Audrey McKay, Emma Riddle, Ethan Picklesimer, Jaya Siders, while the Daisies are played by Stella Short, Caroline Johnson, Jillian Zeigler, Ella Picklesimer, Ivy Engel and Sophie Harris.
