WILMINGTON — CMH Regional Health System has brought on another Interventional Cardiologist as part of its newly launched program — Nihad Al-Assaad, MD, FACC.

CMH CEO Greg Nielsen expressed his confidence in Dr. Al-Assaad joining CMH:

“Dr. Al-Assaad is not only an exceptional physician, but an exceptional person. His breadth of experience and training in interventional cardiology, and his passion for his patients make him a perfect fit for the practice and for our new program,” Nielsen said. “We are happy to have him here at CMH, and know he will take excellent care of our patients as we launch life-saving interventional care later this summer.”

Dr. Al-Assaad received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Aleppo in Aleppo, Syria. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, a fellowship in Vascular Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, and an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Al-Assaad has more than 15 years of experience as a Cardiologist, and seven years experience as an Interventionalist working in Canton, Elyria, and most recently with Genesis HealthCare in Zanesville.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Society of Vascular Medicine and Biology, and the American College of Physicians; and is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

CMH Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Hollon, echoed Nielsen’s confidence. “Dr. Al-Assaad’s medical training, years of experience, and integrity make him a great fit for this program,” said Hollon. “I look forward to welcoming him to our medical staff and working alongside him as we grow and expand services to southwest Ohio.”

CMH announced earlier this year that it will be launching an interventional cardiology program, a first for the health system and the region.

CMH launched inpatient and outpatient services (not including PCI and heart attack interventions) on May 1, and will launch a 24/7 interventional program later this summer.

Dr. Al-Assaad is now accepting patients in CMH’s interventional cardiology clinic – Cardiology Associates of Southwest Ohio. To schedule an appointment, call 937-283-9888
