Potential candidates for local nonpartisan races in the Nov. 7 general election still have a few days to check out a petition to run. But many have already gathered signatures and turned in their petitions.

One of the hottest races in November will be for Blanchester School Board.

With three seats up for grabs, so far nine district residents have checked out petitions — Darlene Blanton, James Constable, Dwayne Dearth, incumbent Joe Falgner, Kathy Gephart, Jack D. Long, Lois Wainscott, Betsy Wellman and Kyle Wilson. As of Tuesday, Blanton, Dearth, Falgner, Gephart, Long and Wilson have filed their petitions.

For Blanchester Village Council, the race is set with five candidates running for four spots — Independent Tyler McCollister and Republicans Gary Bauer, Lori Byrom, Chad Hollon and Reilly Hopkins. Two others had turned in petitions, but those were not certified by the Clinton County Board of Elections.

There are six candidates set for the three at-large slots on Wilmington City Council — Democrats Angela Mitchell-Koster, Kelsey Swindler and Tyler Williams and Republicans Carter Cockman, William Liermann and Chris Walls.

For Wilmington City Council’s 2nd Ward, Democrat Michael Allbright will square off against Republican Loren Stuckert II.

Only two local issues have been filed so far. The Clinton-Massie School District filed an additional tax levy, avoiding an operating deficit of the school district, 5.8 mills for five years.

Clark Township including the Village of Martinsville has a renewal tax levy. This is for providing and maintaining fire protection, 0.7 mill for five years. They have not been certified by the Board of Elections.

The Village of Blanchester is considering placing an earnings tax on the ballot.
