WILMINGTON — Wilmington’s version of National Night Out keeps growing stronger — Miami Valley Hospital’s CareFlight medical helicopter will be flying to the local portion of the 34th annual nationwide event.

Hosted by the Wilmington Police Department and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, National Night Out will be celebrated 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at J.W. Denver Williams Jr. Memorial Park.

There will be face painting, games and food. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office will be present to showcase their office, including D.A.R.E, their Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit, and deputies.

The Wilmington Fire Department will be out as well.

“Come join us for fun,” says Wilmington Police Chief Duane Weyand. WPD’s K9 Karson will also appear.

CareFlight is expected to land at 6 p.m. and will be departing by 6:45 p.m.

The four CareFlight helicopters can carry the pilot, two flight nurses and two patients at up to 180 mph — about 3 miles per minute — making them among the fastest medical helicopters, according to Miami Valley.

It’s newest helicopter is the first operational AS365N3+ in the United States, featuring:

• Twin engines

• 10,000-foot climb capability

• Airborne collision and avoidance system (ACAS)

• Helicopter terrain awareness warning system (HTAWS)

• Night vision goggle compatible lighting

• Weather radar

Also coming to Wilmington for National Night Out is the Warren County Mounted Search Team.

The nonprofit assists local, state and federal agencies in locating missing, lost or overdue person and articles and evidence in both rural and urban areas, and assist with crowd control and in emergency and disaster situations.

All members are certified in first aid and CPR and undergo continuous search training; they also train with other search and rescue teams, including canines.

CCYC will be also at the event with Frisbee Golf.
