Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• Donato’s Pizza, 880 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, July 24. Box of salt packets and box of paper plates found stored on floor next to drive-thru window. Cutting boards have staining and black cut marks. Crumbs/food debris stuck to protective coating on pre-sub prep cooler. Wire shelf across walk-in cooler has food debris accumulations. Black residues observed inside ice chute on soda fountain machine. Light shield missing on ceiling fixture. Dust observed on ceiling above pizza make line and HVAC vent above mop sink. Sauce splatter observed on plumbing of hand sink next to 3-sink. Cheese debris observed on floor in walk-in cooler and door track. Verification demonstrating employees know when to report illness unavailable.

Critical: Class cleaner and degreaser, spray bottles, dish soap found stored on soda bib rack. Level 2 certification unavailable.

• Caesar’s Creek Donut, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Critical: PIC baking cookies at home. Observed PIC wipe nose, did not wash hands before making coffee. Bleach unavailable. Dish soap unavailable. Gnats observed in donut case.

• Caesar Creek Ice Cream, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Level 2 certification in food protection unavailable. Verification demonstrating employees know when to report illness unavailable. M&M’s, Reese’s missing labels, Oreos were on shelf in open bag. Beverage air cooler was not maintaining safe temperatures. Ice observed on fans. Caulking between topping section and base of beverage air cooler has staining and needs replaced. Observed food residues on door, seals and shelves in beverage air cooler. Wall damaged next to hand sink. Soft-serve machines are unused in facility.

Critical: Strawberries 49°F, air temperature 52°F. Date markings missing on foods in beverage air cooler. Strawberries were two weeks old.

• Caesar Creek Pizza & Subs, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Level 2 certification in food protection unavailable. Verification demonstrating employees know when to report illness unavailable. Handle of ice scoop found in ice. Door seal damaged in True 2-door reach-in cooler. Delfield 2-door reach-in cooler has rust accumulation on shelf/unit was out of service at time of visit. Cutting board has staining and black cut marks. Walls, shelves, floors (especially near wall and floor junctions) under and behind equipment appear dirty.

Critical: Pizza 120°F/stored in pizza cabinet. Air gap is not visible at Pepsi drain lines.

• Combs Bakery, 1221 Wayne Road, Wilmington, July 21. Verification demonstrating all employees know when to report illness unavailable. Creamer, sugar and powdered sugar were missing label. Quat test strips were damaged. Duct tape observed as repair on storage container for cinnamon/sugar. Self-closure in exit door was damaged. Observed employee go outside with apron on after smoke break. Water observed on floor in walk-in cooler. Light in wall in freezer nonworking.

• Speedway, 900 S. South St., Wilmington, July 25. Follow-up. Previous violations have been corrected. Please continue to keep up on sanitation.

• Subway, 993 S. South St., Wilmington, July 25. Upon inspecting dry storage there were some gnats flying around. The walk-in freezer and walk-in coolers have small puddles of water on floor by the door. Fire extinguishers were serviced in March 2014.

Critical: Bottles of sauces are not dated.

Follow-up: Aug. 25.

• Roberts Centre, 123 Gano Road, Wilmington, July 25. Walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler do not have enough light to properly see items in the facility. Warewash machine does not get hot enough on first fill. PIC fills, dumps and refills machine to reach temperature. Dial on outside not working properly. There is also plaster hanging in hood of dishwashing area.

• Caesar Creek Main Kitchen, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Level 2 certification (issued from ODH) unavailable. Verification demonstrating employees know when to report illness unavailable. Ice deposits observed in True reach-in freezer. Rust observed on shelves in true reach-in cooler in storage room. Observed food debris on slicer, prep cooler.

• Tommy’s Jerky Outlet, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Sample bags for sale missing labels. Reusable tongs observed being used for samples (popcorn and peanuts).

• Grandma’s Groceries, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Baby formula and medicine found with expired dates on sales floor.

Critical: Bleach and other chemicals stored above food.

• Connie’s Country Market & Deli, 7763 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. Fudge squares, bread, etc. missing labels on sales floor. Deli cooler dripping condensation into pan in the cooler.

• Alma’s Amish Cheese Barn, 7810 SR 73 W, Wilmington, July 22. No concerns at time of visit.

• Thousand Trails Canteen, 1786 SR 380, Wilmington, July 21. Residues observed on dispenser of slush puppy machine.
