Free Family Law Clinic set for Aug. 25

WILMINGTON — A free legal consultation will be available for those who qualify when the Clinton/Highland County Family Law Clinic holds its third clinic hours later this month.

The clinic will be held 2-4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 at the Clinton County Law Library on the third floor of the courthouse. Clients will receive a free consultation with a volunteer attorney on a first-come, first-served basis.

So far this year, clinic hours have been held in March and June.

Katie Wright, assistant prosecutor for the Child Support Enforcement Agency, said numerous indigent clients have been assisted on issues such as parenting time, child support and other family law related matters.

“The success of the clinic so far is a testament to our outstanding and generous legal community,” Wright said. “We are very grateful for the attorneys who are willing to give back to the community in this way.”

Local attorneys Chaley Peelle Griffith and Tony Baker will be on hand for the upcoming clinic hours. Wright also credited Anne Lucas, the managing attorney of the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, and volunteer clinic administrator Jayme Mabry, who have been instrumental in administering the clinic.

The clinic operates in partnership with the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, the Clinton County Fatherhood Initiative, local volunteer attorneys and the Clinton County Domestic Relations and Juvenile courts.

All clinic clients are screened for indigence.

Attorneys interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Wright at 937-382-4559. The next clinic is slated for October.
