Clinton County eateries face inspections

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• McDonald’s, 201 W. Main St., Blanchester, Aug. 16. Employee behind counter taking money has no hat or hairnet. Observed this employee walking over to drive-thru/drink area. In dry storage shed, shelves are falling apart (pressboard breaking down). reach-in cooler in drive-thru area missing leg making unit very unstable. Black mildew on gasket of McCafe cooler and food debris around “Grill 1.” There were gnats flying around and grease on floor by large grease containers and pop containers in dry storage.

Critical: Tomatoes in reach-in cooler dated 8/16 at 8:30 a.m. and dehydrated onions 8/16 at 8:30 a.m. Container of sausage gravy was not dated, all containers of pancakes were not dated in reach-in cooler. Canadian bacon and sliced onions were not dated. Inside ledge of the ice machine has some black residue.

Follow-up: Sept. 17.

• Uhl’s IGA, 444 E. Washington St., Sabina, Aug. 16. Three cheese products were outdated (Aug. 3, July 29 and Aug. 7). Chocolate dessert and cut fruit were missing ingredients on the label. Light out in the cheese and pudding case. Walk-in freezer has some ice accumulation. Caulking behind 3-compartment sinks in meat & deli had black mildew growth. There were several towels lying in meat department and in deli. Counter under cappuccino was dirty.

Critical: The wedge cutter was dirty.

• Elks Lodge #797, 2541 SR 22 East, Wilmington, Aug. 14. Level 2 certification in food protection unavailable. Working thermometer unavailable in True reach-in cooler. Food splatter observed in microwave. Residue observed in ice machine guard. Table cover on table? Lights nonworking in vent hood above fryers, etc. Ceiling tiles broken/missing/water damaged in kitchen and storage room. Powder/debris stuck to shelving and floor of walk-in cooler. Back bar needs cleaning — water in sinks? At the back bar, was a sink or ice bin removed?

Critical: Turkey 44°F, cole slaw 42°F (True reach-in cooler). Open packages of turkey, hot dogs, sliced tomatoes, etc. missing date mark. Trays of raw shell eggs on top shelf in cooler.

• Kroger, Rombach Avenue, Wilmington, Aug. 15. Follow-up. Salad bar had been closed. Air temp under containers 31°F. Ready to re-open.

Follow-up: Aug. 22.

• Rod’s Capricorn Inn, 6660 SR 730, Wilmington, Aug. 10. Caulking behind the 3-compartment sink had some black mildew growth/debris.

• Subway, 2855B SR 73 South, Wilmington, Aug. 14. Level 2 certification in food protection unavailable. Light nonworking in reach-in freezer. Light nonworking in walk-in cooler. Light bulbs nonworking in ceiling fixtures above prep area/3 sink.Food debris observed between service line prep cases. Lid unavailable on trash receptacle. Observed purses, phones (personal items) stored on food dry storage shelf.

Critical: Fly strip hung from ceiling fan near 3 sink.

• Mediterranean Restaurant, 53 E. Main St., Wilmington, Aug. 15. Ice accumulation on floor of walk-in freezer by the door. Towels on floor by 3-compartment sink and dishwasher.

Follow-up: Sept. 11.

• 68 Shell, 5737 US 68 North, Wilmington, Aug. 16. Name, label and ingredients missing for new banana Krispy Kreme donut. Black residue observed on ice dispenser at soda fountain machine. Boxes of cups/lids stored on floor.

• Yamato Steak House, 1362 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Aug. 14. Follow-up. Violations corrected: 2.3, 3.2, 3.4, 2.4, 4.6, 4.5, 4.8, 5.3, 5.1, 6.4. Thanks for cooperation.

• Barrera’s Community Meat, 230 Main St., Port William, Aug. 16. Level 2 certification in food protection unavailable. Meat hand saw is pitted, has rust. Floor in restroom is not secure. Light fixture in ceiling (2) nonworking.
