The Wilmington Garden Club met on Monday, Sept. 11 at Cowan Lake Sailing Association Clubhouse for the annual installation of officers for the 2017-2018 year.
Maggie Vance was installed as President, Cindy Green, Vice-President, Donna, Tronerud, Secretary, Ann Carr, Assistant Secretary, Polly Countryman, Treasurer, Jennilou Grotevant, Assistant Treasurer, and Jennilou Grotevant and Mary Thatcher, Contact Persons.
Helen Starkey conducted the ceremony using herbs as her theme.
The president, as an example, received sage, as a reminder of the wisdom that would be needed to carry out her duties. Helen wished all new officers good luck and said, “May you grow with your herb family and enjoy the seasonings of the new year.”
A business meeting followed. Committee reports were given. The Point Park committee chair, Susan Hunt, reported that she had a lot of good help keeping the garden looking so beautiful. Cindy Green, Commercial and Beautification chair, reported the Residential Landscaping Award was given to George Bush of 1218 Warren Drive. The Community Landscape Award was given to Wilmington Lutheran Mission Church at 757 West Main Street
The hostesses for the September meeting were Cindy Green, Mary Thatcher and Donna Tronerud. Delicious refreshments were served.
