WILMINGTON — After just one year, the Post 49 Memorial Squad/Honor Guard has achieved its goal of $60,000 and placed the order for a new bus.

Squad Commander and Bus Committee Chairman Mike Sutton expressed his gratitude to the committee for all their time and hard work, saying, “This new bus will enable us to continue to perform the military funerals and all the other things that we do for many years to come.”

When asked about contributions made by Clinton County residents and businesses, Sutton replied, “What I find outstanding is the citizens of Clinton County supported us with this project AND supported not one, but two honor flights for Clinton County veterans.” He added, “To me that speaks volumes of the commitment that the [Clinton County] citizens have for veterans and their causes.”

Donations to Honor Flight and the Bus Campaign totaled more than $134,000 combined.

Thanks to donations from the community’s residents and organizations, the group has reached its goal.
