WILMINGTON — Terry Inlow is no stranger to Wilmington College or Harcum Art Gallery yet his new exhibit will be coming from the perspective of a recently retired art professor.

He will present an exhibit of diverse works, titled “A Mostly Humorous Retrospective,” in Wilmington College’s Harcum Art Gallery Wednesday (Oct. 25) through Dec. 9. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Normal gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special appointments can be made by contacting curator Hal Shunk, professor of art, via email at [email protected].

Inlow, emeritus assistant professor of art, retired from the College in 2016 after 40 years on the art faculty. His retrospective will include four distinct artistic media: abstract works on paper, ceramics, mixed media and photography.

Featured in his exhibit are “social commentary pieces that consist of a key image that is supported by a glyph (title or phrase) that is an inherent part of the piece. These ‘commentaries’ use humor as a vehicle to deliver their statement,” he said.

“It truly is a retrospective and, while I’ve exhibited many times over the years, this will be the first time I’ve featured all of these (media),” he said.

Inlow, a native of nearby Cuba, Ohio, triple majored in ceramics, drawing and printmaking while earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University in New York and completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting at the University of Cincinnati.

He he wishes to dedicate the exhibit to “the people who fueled and infused my passion for art and got me to where I am now.”

Inlow cited as artistic influences the trio of Elizabeth Camp; Carol Axelrod, his junior high school art teacher; and Jim McCarty, his high school art teacher.
