WILMINGTON — The American-initiated Marshall Plan was not the only initiative in rebuilding Europe after World War II.

Earlham College’s Dr. Elana Passman will speak on concurrent efforts by the French and Germans as part of Wilmington College’s Marshall Plan poster exhibit programming Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Meriam R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center (QHC).

The title of her talk is “Beyond the Marshall Plan: The Question of Moral Recovery in Postwar Germany and France.”

Passman is an associate professor of history with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. Her talk will be based on research she has conducted on French and German cooperation, cross-cultural exchange occupied Europe and transnational history.

The QHC exhibit features a rare full set of colorful Marshall Plan propaganda posters highlighting the cooperation between the United States and many nations in bringing Europe back from the devastation of war.

The exhibit, titled “Cooperation Means Prosperity: Marshall Plan Posters for Post WWII Recovery,” is running through Dec. 8. Normal gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Fridays. Admission is free of charge.
