1 dead, 4 hurt in 3-vehicle crash

UNION TOWNSHIP – One person was killed in a Friday morning accident involving three vehicles.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred on State Route 73 at Antioch Road in Union Township, Clinton County at approximately 7:55 a.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Hailee Heflin, 22, of Hillsboro, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry southeast on SR 73 when she slowed to make a left turn upon approaching Antioch Road. Heflin was then struck from behind by a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by Ethan Adkins, 19, of Hillsboro, according to the OSHP.

Heflin’s vehicle was then forced left of center and was struck head-on by a 2014 Ford Econoline 350 van, operated by Douglas Rice, 61, of Oregonia, police said.

Heflin was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Heflin’s 2-year-old boy passenger was transported to Greene County Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Rice and his three passengers, Christopher Wenger, 21, of Bainbridge, Noah Wenger, 31, of Hillsboro, and Duane Auker, 40, of Bainbridge were all transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Adkins was not transported

The crash remains under investigation.
