Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• McDonald’s, 1272 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Dec. 5, Standard/Complaint. Received complaint regarding general cleanliness, food on floor in dining area, playland dirty and children not wearing socks, and the presence of gnats in the facility. Spoke with manager regarding complaint. Playland is wiped down by employees daily and cleaned once a quarter by play company. Dining room did not have trash and food on floor. Gnats still at drink station and McCafe station.

Critical: New front counter installed. Health department did not receive plans or information regarding new counter or when it was installed. There was a scoop down in the ice machine with ice covering the handle. Sliced white American cheese in the walk-in cooler was not dated. the cinnamelts in the walk-in cooler were dated “use by” Dec. 5 at 8:50 and 9:05. Hotcakes in reach-in cooler were dated “use by” Dec. 5 at 8:50 a.m. and Dec. 4 at 10:56 a.m. Burritos in the reach-in cooler were not dated. Canadian bacon in the reach-in cooler was opened and not dated. On the line the containers of mayo, tarter sauce and Mac sauce that were in use were not dated. Inside ledge of ice machine was cracked and had black mildew residue. Facility had degreaser stored on top of freezer by grill.

There was no thermometer in the reach-in Beverage-Air cooler behind the front counter. The chicken freezer mounted to wall in kitchen is not working. OJ machine in drive-thru area is leaking water inside unit and outside dripping onto counter and floor. There is product splashed on outside of tea containers at the drink station (for customers). Inside of Beverage-Air reach-in cooler had food debris and whipped cream debris on doors and ceilings. Outside of frappe machine and ice container were dirty with food debris. Door handle of Traulsen cooler had food debris on outside. Food on floor of Traulsen cooler. Inside of microwave by the grill was dirty. Outside of grease receptacle had grease on it. There were towels (dirty) stored on top of the freezer by the grill area. Hand sink in the kitchen area is not working. There is a urinal in the men’s bathroom that is broken. Door to the bathroom in the play area is not self-closing. Gnats flying around customer beverage area and also in the McCafe area. Black mildew on the wall behind the 3-comparment sink. Floor under the tea brewer is dirty and sticky. Food debris on equipment beside the grill area and on the floor. There was a cell phone stored by the drawers containing hot food. Wall behind the coffee machine in the drive-thru area is dirty. Floors throughout the kitchen are dirty with food debris.

Overall sanitation in kitchen needs to improve.

• Speedway, 900 S. South St., Wilmington, Dec. 7. Inside of microwave in back room was dirty. Cabinets under soda fountain and under hot dog roller — inside dirty with pop syrup and debris. Trash on floor of walk-in cooler. Wall behind mop sink dirty. Wall behind prep area in back dirty. Front cabinet covering broken under iced coffee machine and under microwave. Tile (floor) cracked in front of slushie machine.

Follow-up: Approx. Jan. 10.

• Clinton County Jail, 1645 Davids Drive, Wilmington, Dec. 7. Follow-up. All previous violations have been corrected. Thank you.

• Domino’s Pizza, 211 S. Broadway, Blanchester, Nov. 29. Employee beverage open container found on dough prep table. Level 2 food protection certification unavailable. Opening observed at bottom of exit read door. Trim missing on FRP near 3-sink and dry storage room. FRP panel missing at entry into walk-in cooler. Hole in FRP near exit door. Cove trim missing by walk-in cooler. Floor stand fan has dust accumulations.

Critical: Spray bottle of cleaner hanging on shelf above paper supplies.
