My First 5K training set for beginners

WILMINGTON — My First 5K — Clinton County Diabetes & Community Wellness Program’s first training program for beginners — is set to begin Saturday, Feb. 10.

They are proud to partner with the Clinton County Health District, the Health Alliance of Clinton County, and Get Fit for this year’s training program.

Trainings will be held weekly for one hour and lead up to the Health Alliance of Clinton County’s April Fool’s Annual5K/1 mile walk on April 7.

Training focuses on injury prevention, stretching, and setting and reaching goals. Reduce stress, improve health, and increase your enjoyment of exercise while having fun and meeting new people.

Prepare to walk or run a 5K in just seven weeks. This training is geared especially toward first-time walkers and runners, but anyone looking for motivation and fun is welcome to participate! A one-mile option is also available.

If your goal is not completing a race, but you’re interested in getting active, this training is for you too

This Saturday at 11:30 a.m. come to the Clinton County Annex at 111 S. Nelson Ave., Wilmington for an information session and registration event.

The first 20 participants to register on Saturday will be eligible for free race registration and a punch card for 12 visits to Get Fit.

Free prediabetes screening (A1c test, blood pressure and risk assessment) will also be offered feb. 10.
