Youth ‘Rockers’ assist New Life Clinic

WILMINGTON — Executive Director Sherry Weller and Education Coordinator Karla Barker represented the board of directors and staff of New Life Clinic hosting a “Rocker Appreciation” event in December for area youth who have, over the course of four Rock-A-Thon fundraiser events, funded specific projects for the Clinic outside of the normal operating budget.

“Rockers” and their families were treated to refreshments, tours of the facility, and presented with rocking chair Christmas ornaments symbolic of the rocking chairs they occupy for up to six hours during Rock-a-Thons.

Rockers also received a New Life Clinic backpack and a Real Care Doll demonstration.

The efforts of kids and teens supported by financial sponsors have provided a website upgrade, four in-house client-use computers, an exterior wall mural, and most recently computerized Real-Care Dolls utilized in parenting classes.

The event climaxed with a doll-naming ceremony at which time two of the participants who met prescribed fundraising criteria were honored with the privilege of “naming” a doll.

The next Rock-a-Thon is scheduled for the summer of 2018. For more information text 937-725-2688.
