‘Cane sixth-graders at COSI

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Schools Foundation’s grant program provides the opportunity for applicants to receive funding for creative and impactful ideas for classrooms and for the educational environment of students, faculty and staff. These are awarded on an annual basis and are among the primary efforts of the WSF.

The entire sixth grade recently visited COSI — Center of Science and Industry — in Columbus because of a grant awarded to them by the Wilmington Schools Foundation.

The students explored many exhibits centering around math and science. They also connected their learning from social studies with the traveling exhibit on The Silk Road.

Students were amazed to see actual artifacts that they had learned about this year. They were able to connect their learning from science in the Energy Explorers room where they learned about where energy comes from and how it powers the world.

In the Lily Pad and Ocean rooms, students connected to life science and earth science when they viewed the formation of watersheds and took a look at some Ohio critters.

Physical science was in play in the Gadgets area, where students were able to try hands-on challenges like in the classroom.

Wilmington sixth-grade students learned by doing — and had some fun in the process — during the visit to COSI.
