The Wilmington Area Humane Society (WAHS) announces two events open to the public to celebrate our best furry friends on Saturday, Nov. 14. An educational program called The Calming Seminar will teach techniques to help you and your dog remain calm during stressful times followed by a fun social gathering for dogs and their human friends, The Tails & Tuxedo Fur Ball, later in the day.

“The Calming Seminar: Calming your energy in stressful environments” will be Saturday, Nov. 14 from 1-3 p.m. at Roberts Arena, 4095 SR 730, Wilmington. This program will be beneficial to those who have dogs as well as those who do not. Your energy level affects all aspects of your life.

Learn techniques to calm both you and your dog during times of stress. Discussion topics include calming exercises for people, calming exercises for dogs and animal massage and acupressure. Program leaders include Sharon Cioca, Janet Schultz and Lisa Stacey. Dogs are welcome to attend but no aggressive dogs, please. Cost is $20 per person if preregistered and $25 at the door.

You may preregister in person at D & G Paws and Claws Snack Shack, 5356 US 68 North, Wilmington, mail a check to WAHS at P.O. Box 968, Wilmington or pay online through Pay Pal to Wilmington Area Humane Society, email [email protected]. Please note on the memo “November fundraiser.” Area shelters and rescues are invited and may participate in a special shelter package. To receive this special package, preregistration is necessary. For further information about the program, call Janet at 937-366-6558.

The Tails & Tuxedo Fur Ball, a social occasion for both dogs and their humans, is guaranteed to produce smiles and tail wags. It will be Nov. 14 from 5-8 p.m. at Roberts Arena, 4095 SR 730, Wilmington. Music, fun and human food and drinks are featured. A professional photographer will be on hand to capture this special night. Other activities include a doggie dance-off, musical dog chairs, doggie cake walk and a best outfit contest with prizes for winners.

A minimum donation of $20 prepaid or $25 at the door is requested. You may prepay at D & G Paws and Claws, by check to WAHS, P.O. Box 968, Wilmington or through PayPal. Please contact Jennifer at 937 725-8488 for additional information.

Come out and celebrate our furry friends while supporting WAHS. Proceeds from both fundraisers will benefit all of the animals at WAHS waiting for their “furever” homes.
