WILMINGTON — CMH Regional Health System announced that it has brought on a new general surgeon, Dr. Rachel Lovano, to join Dr. Daniel Mwanza as part of Surgical Associates of Southwest Ohio. Dr. Lovano will begin seeing new patients in April.

“Dr. Lovano is a talented and experienced surgeon, and we’re confident that she will be an excellent addition to our team,” said CMH CEO Greg Nielsen. “We’re looking forward to her arrival in April, and know that she will hit the ground running. With Dr. Mwanza, and now Dr. Lovano, our general surgery team is truly top-notch.”

Dr. Lovano received her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and completed her residency in general surgery at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey and at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. She then went on to complete a fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in Houston as part of their Minimally Invasive Surgeons of Texas Fellowship Consortium.

Prior to coming to CMH, Dr. Lovano was a general surgeon in San Antonio, Texas for VR Surgical Associates.

She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons, and specializes in general surgery and minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

Dr. John Hollon, Chief Medical Officer at CMH, echoed Nielsen. “We’re delighted that Dr. Lovano will be joining our medical staff. General surgery is such a critical piece of what we do here at CMH, and Dr. Mwanza and Dr. Lovano bring so much to the table—experience, exceptional skillsets, and a passion for the patients they serve. We can’t wait for her to get started, and look forward to introducing her to the community.”

Dr. Lovano is the sixth new full-time provider CMH has announced so far this year.
