ATSG-Amazon partnership great news

One of the first bills I supported after being elected to the Ohio House in 2011 established a private, non-profit corporation called JobsOhio. The purpose behind that legislation was to streamline the process that our state had for attracting and retaining new investments and businesses.

I proudly voted for JobsOhio because I believed it would help Ohio climb out of a tough economic environment and start creating jobs again. Since January of 2011, roughly 417,000 private-sector jobs have been created in Ohio, and JobsOhio has been a major part of that success.

It has also been imperative that we nurture those vital small businesses already thriving in the state to ensure that they stay in Ohio, providing job opportunities and enriching our local communities.

Wednesday brought an exciting announcement for Wilmington and southwest Ohio. I am happy to welcome the partnership between Amazon and Air Transport Services Group (ATSG). The agreement, which will make ATSG an air cargo provider for Amazon, is major economic news for our region and it will help better serve consumers throughout the country.

This is part of a larger investment that Amazon is making in Ohio, committing $1 billion and the creation of more than 2,000 jobs.

The Wilmington Air Park is a tremendous asset to our region and, although there are still a lot of details that are yet to be ironed out, the partnership with Amazon demonstrates how far our economy has come in recent years. I am thrilled by the thought of seeing increased air traffic above the city of Wilmington and look forward to showcasing how special our community is to fellow Ohioans, as well as our nation.

This announcement is another example of how Ohio is continuing to make strides to diversify our economy and grow business in the state. By working together and by highlighting all that our state has to offer, I believe we are on a pathway to a brighter future within our various communities.
