Support for Honor Flight outstanding

I am writing in an effort to keep the community updated on the progress of the Clinton County Honor Flight project.

What started as a simple fundraising effort by the Wilmington Rotary Clubs has become a major community event coordinated by Rotary and the Wilmington posts of the American Legion and the VFW, working in conjunction with Honor Flight Dayton. Community support for this project has been truly outstanding, with almost $58,000 donated by local businesses and individuals, far exceeding even our most optimistic goal. We cannot thank the people of Clinton County enough for this outpouring of encouragement and assistance.

The county’s veterans have also embraced this opportunity to participate in an Honor Flight. Currently, 78 local veterans have applied for the Oct. 1 Clinton County Honor Flight, which exceeds the 75 seats allocated to Clinton County on this flight. However, another flight is being scheduled for the spring of 2017, so additional veteran applications will be welcome.

Various community events are being planned for the week prior to the Oct. 1 Honor Flight, including a Send-Off Celebration on the evening of Sept. 30. More information will be forthcoming once these plans are finalized.
