NEW RICHMOND – With a 7-3 win Wednesday over Clinton-Massie, the New Richmond baseball team has muddied the SBAAC American Division waters.

Clinton-Massie is 6-1 in the league and 11-4 overall.

The Lions are now 5-1 in American play and 9-4 in all games.

Each team won on its home field against the other this season.

The other four teams in the American Division have four losses as play began on Wednesday.

Bryan Kennedy had four hits to lead the CM offense that finished with 12 hits on the night.

“We just couldn’t string any of them together,” CM coach Brian Camp said. “Defensively we didn’t play as well as we’ve been playing and that allowed a lot of big innings to happen and we couldn’t overcome them.”

Clinton Stotts, Tyler Gasaway and Dom Kerns had two hits each. Kerns and Gasaway both had doubles; Gasaway had two runs batted in.

Luke Chappie started on the mound and gave up three earned runs in four innings. He struck out three and walked five. Josh Merkle pitched the final two innings, walking three. Neither of the two runs allowed by Merkle were earned.
