GREENFIELD — Scoring the final 7 points of the game, McClain pulled away from Wilmington Saturday for a 40-33 South Central Ohio League win at the MHS gym.
The loss leaves the Lady Hurricane at 7-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.
McClain is now 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the league. The Lady Tigers are second behind league leader Miami Trace, who is 9-1 in the SCOL.
Taylor Polley of McClain led all scorers with 17 points.
The Lady Tigers were 14-25 at the free throw line. Wilmington was 4-7.
Mya Jackson led the Lady Hurricane with 13 points.
WHS head coach Mark Short said the game was tied at 33 with approximately 3 minutes to play.
“We had a chance to take the league but couldn’t capitalize,” he said. “We didn’t hit the big shot when we needed it.”
Despite the loss, Short sees his Lady Hurricane growing each day.
“The kids are really playing well,” he said. “They have taken ownership of the team.”
